The Early Years of My Life

willsrendar.jpg

My early days at the Temple

My first memory was that of a young child; an infant reaching up to his mother; my mother. Her name was Drailla and as I remember, not a woman who showed emotion as a rule. Drailla had four children. I was the eldest along with my twin brother Drake. Then came my sister Salisha and finally, the youngest sibling, another sister, Calliopia.
My father Thadius was thankfully, a very loving man who made up for my mother's apparent lack of interest in her children. If not for Thadius, life could and would most likely have been very different for me.
Growing up in the Bendu family was something that we did not consider a privledge but as natives of Ando Prime we were considered royalty in a sense by our neighbours.
The Bendu monks, who worship the old ways strove to keep the children of the Bendu protected from those who would guide us down a darker path. Along with my father they succeeded for the most part until a later time in my life. The dark times when the Dark side beckoned me on a distant planet, away from the safety of my family's legacy. But that is for another time. Perhaps one day I will relate that story. As painful as it is to remember the dark days it may serve to teach others the dangers of temptation and the consequences of hastily-made choices.

Jedi Knight Darrion Bendu

.....From the Bendu family album:
JEDI IN TRAINING-Darrion at 18yrs old.

Before I go any further in my journey I feel it best to mention a bit about my individual family members. To understand them, is to understand me. I begin with my mother, Drailla Bendu.
Drailla was always a mystery to me. I loved her but the love was never returned. I never once felt the sweet caress of my mother's hand to my cheek nor saw her express any kind of emotion to any of us kiddies.
Mother was a Jedi Master who believed in the physical aspects of the Force more so than the spiritual ones. She was a fierce warrior and travelled the galaxy fighting the just cause of the day. Why she ever married my father remains unknown but I suppose she had a desire to produce more Jedi to strengthen the ranks. Whatever the case, as I grew older, Mother and I grew apart and after only one visit to the temple when I was chosen by my Master, she and I never saw each other again. She died during a battle on a distant Rim World proving that even someone as strong as she is not infallible. I should not care but I do and I regret that I was never close to Drailla Bendu.

Thadius Bendu, my father, was a Jedi historian. I recall as a child climbing up on his knee to poke my head into whatever journal he was researching at the time. He taught me many things that made me the man I am today and for that I am eternally grateful. He was a kind, charismatic man and I remember feeling at peace whenever he was near. To this day the smell of old books and leather bound journals reminds me of him. Thadius loved my mother; of that I am sure, as I recall the look he gave her whenever she returned from a mission. Sadly, she did not appear to show him any love in return but I believe that my father was happy in his own way. He was heartbroken when she died and became withdrawn and isolated. I tried to breakthough the wall that he had built around himself but I never succeeded. He lived to see me become a Jedi Knight and passed away peacefully in his sleep a few days later from a massive heart attack.

Drake Bendu, my twin brother
I am still the eldest having been first to greet this world. My brother arrived only a few seconds later. To see us together, you would be hard pressed to distinguish one from the other, save for the birthmark on the nape of Drakes neck. There are a few other differences however. Drake is a man who has led an unsettled life. He refused to acknowledge his gift of midichlorians and was not chosen to train at the Temple. He kept his force-sensitivity a secret from everyone except me. As his twin, I could sense him more than anyone else but I never told a soul. I had a bond with Drake that only twins can understand and I respected him for his decision. He left Ando Prime at the age of sixteen and in all these year I have only heard bits and pieces from him. He finally settled on the homeworld of a family friend. He nows lives with his family on Synerggest on the outskirts of a town where he owns a choclytt plantation. His 'choklytt googlies' are out of this galaxy. He also keeps in touch with a family that mine has been connected with for generations. The Mystte family; the Psychlorian connection.

Salisha Bendu
Salisha is two years younger than I and my brother. She was a very shy young lass and still is to this day. I suppose that might have something to do with having two older brothers that teased her relentlessly as a child. But we also loved and protected our sister, perhaps too much because as Salisha grew up she could never really fend for herself. My sister was and still is force-sensitive but chose not to train in the Jedi arts. Like my brother, she took her life in a different direction.
From the moment Salisha was big enough to climb up into the seat of a spacecraft, she began to show a talent for piloting. She watched and learned from many local pilots and when she was old enough, Salisha formerly announced her desire to enrol in the Centrum Flight Academy. From there, she became well-known as being one of the top pilots to graduate from the Academy and took a position with the Andonian fleet. She continues even now as a flight instructor at the same Academy in which she trained.
